10-19 Architecture

2522 Aiken Ave brings bold forms and new life to an old single-story house in a traditional neighborhood.  The new 3-story structure provides 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms in an open floor plan at whose heart is a 2-story atrium.  Bright, expansively-glazed rooms draw in the outdoors on every level, and a steel/wood louver/guardrail screen animates the street facade.  At the back, the house hovers above the rear-sloping lot and wraps around a majestic Ash tree, creating a tree house-like effect for the adjacent spaces.  The tree in turn provides welcome shade for both the house and the pool/yard.  From its interior spaces and its multiple decks, the new house provides views of Rancho Park Golf Course, Century City, and the Santa Monica Mountains.
